Conditions are scored every morning around 9am Eastern from live USGS gauge readings and National Weather Service forecasts. Flow and temperature figures on river pages refresh from USGS each time you open them.
Each gauged river is rated Prime, Fishing Well, Fair, Tough, or Blown Out by comparing current flow and water temperature against that river's normal ranges. Green means go, amber means workable, red means stay home or pick another river.
Streamflow and water temperature come from USGS gauges. Weather comes from the National Weather Service. Ratings, fly picks, and lure picks are computed from those readings, not written by hand.
Both. Every gauged river gets fly recommendations and lure recommendations that change with conditions, so spin and bait anglers get the same daily read as fly anglers.
