Cedar River (UP) Michigan Trout Fishing Conditions
Brook Trout
Brown Trout
Steelhead
Menominee County river flowing to Green Bay. Brook trout in headwaters, smallmouth and pike in lower sections. Spring steelhead run from Green Bay.
The Cedar River runs south through Menominee County to Green Bay. The upper watershed holds wild brook trout in cold, rocky runs through state forest. Brown trout occupy the middle reaches where the gradient eases. Spring brings a steelhead run from Green Bay into the lower river.
Early spring steelhead fishing is the big draw on the Cedar. For resident trout, the upper stretches above the county road crossings fish best from late April through June. Classic UP freestone water: moderate gradient, gravel bottom, good overhead canopy.
