This Sturgeon River (distinct from the Sturgeon near Sidnaw and the Sturgeon near Wolverine) flows through Dickinson and Menominee counties in the central UP. Brook trout in the cold headwaters, with some browns in the lower sections.

The US-2 crossing at Loretto provides easy access. Upstream sections through state forest hold the best trout water. A middle-of-the-road UP stream: not as famous as the western UP rivers, but solid fishing for anglers passing through.
