The lower Thornapple River near Caledonia provides a second gauge point downstream of the existing Hastings monitoring station. This section of the Thornapple flows through Kent County before joining the Grand River. Brown trout are present in the cooler stretches.
Gives anglers a more complete picture of Thornapple conditions throughout its length. The Caledonia gauge tracks the lower river's response to rain and temperature changes independently from the upper sections near Hastings.
